Women and climate Gender-based discrimination means women are often more exposed to climate harms. We need gender-responsive policies – and gender-focused social protections – to keep people safe, the High Commissioner said.
Bridge building, igniting youth action for unity in diversity The High Commissioner addressed the ‘Building Bridges and Intercultural Dialogue seminar” at the Club de Madrid and Ubuntu Leaders Academy. She spoke to the importance of youth, and taking action to build more inclusive, human-rights based policies and societies. Advancing a human rights-based approach to climate action The High Commissioner addressed a UN Side Event, ‘Advancing a human rights-based approach to climate action for people and planet’ at COP26. She stressed the importance of understanding how the interlinked crises of pollution, biodiversity loss, and climate change constitute a grave threat to human rights. Stating that “We need to stand up for ambitious, rights-based and inclusive climate action – so that humanity can survive and thrive.”
Sudan Speaking to a Special Session of the Human Rights Council on the situation in Sudan, the High Commissioner spoke out strongly against human rights violations since the coup of 25 October, and said she was heartened by reports that talks to restore civilian government are under way.
The role of Human Rights Institutions in a better recovery towards development beyond Covid-19 The High Commissioner addressed the conference of the Network of African National Human Rights Institutions.
